Moving and Packing Tips
1. Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials.

2. Get rid of items you don't need.

3. Pack up one room at a time and give each room different color packing labels. Label the
contents of each box and the room it belongs in.

4. Use the right size boxes. Small boxes for books, larger boxes for lighter items. Keep your
largest boxes to no more than 50lbs.

5. Pack the heavy items on the bottom first, then lighter items on top and fill any gaps
with bunched up paper or clothing. Tape bottom and top of boxes. Label each box.

6. For fragile items, use plenty of bunched up paper & padding. Spend the time packing
these items correctly to save you the stress later. Mark Fragile in red ink.

7. Leave clothes on hangers. You can use wardrobe boxes or cut a hole in the bottom of
a trash bag and put over top of hangers then place inside a box. Clothes can also stay
in your dresser but remove any breakables or valuables and shrink wrap dresser.

8. Packing flat screen TV's - Cushion and cover your TV. Wrap it loosely with packing tape
with its sticky side out then roll the bubble wrap over. The end should adhere to the sticky surface of the packing tape preventing it from slipping around. Wrap a blanket or moving
pad around TV and tape it. You can use straps to hold it all together and also provides
handles for you to carry the screen while you move it. Make sure you keep the set upright.
Flat screen models are weight balanced. If you lay it flat, there isn't adequate internal
support.
9. Packing the kitchen - Gather a variety of large, medium and small boxes. Large boxes
are best for lightweight and odd shaped items such as small appliances, bakeware,
plastic storage containers, dish racks, etc. Medium boxes work best for heavier items
like cookbooks and dishes. Boxes with handles makes it easier to lift and move. Heavy
duty boxes are perfect for breakables like glassware.
Using a medium size heavy duty box, place bubble wrap in bottom of box, wrap each plate/bowl with a sheet of packing paper and stack plates vertical in box and stack bowls inside each other, Fill empty spaces with bubble wrap or bunched up paper.
Insert glass dividers into medium box, wrap each glass or mug in packing paper, insert them into the dividers. Add a layer of bubble wrap on top of glasses and tape it shut.

Use a large box for pots and pans. Use towels or bunched up packing paper to stuff around the pans in the box. Wrap glass lids in packing paper (no need to wrap metal
lids) and place around pots or pack all lids together in a separate, smaller box.

For flatware you can wrap plastic around the tray and place it flat inside of a box. Wrap knives individually with packing paper, then wrap them in a kitchen towel and place them
face down in the box.
